Work can have a big impact on the health and behaviour of a human being. Independent of conditions or environment it can strongly influence a person both positively and negatively on a physical and mental level. When work negatively influences peoples health in such a way that illnesses or diseases occur, we speak about occupational illness or disease.

In Western countries the most frequent occuring occupational illnesses are Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI), burn-out, hearing problems and back problems. Other examples of occupational illnesses can be cancer, breathing problems, mental disorders, poisoning or other long-term diseases. The causes of the occupational illnesses are not always clear and can be widespread. In some cases the use of certain materials can be uniquely identified as the source of an illness, but in other cases symptoms will start after a long period of exposion and can't easily be traced back to the circumstances on the work floor. Or, causes may seem vague like stress, company atmosphere. Until now not enough research results are available to be able to determine trends in industries or branches.

In most countries companies are obliged to report the occupational illnesses, this means they will have to keep an administration of all incidents and other work-related diseases. Instead of seeing this as a burden Promasys likes to see these administrational obligations as a start of something else.
