'A safe working environment can only exist when awareness of potential dangers exists.’

An industrial site is a source of many potential dangers. Do you recognize them when you quickly walk by, or do you only recognize them after you literally tripped over them. Maybe your colleague saw the potential danger before you and warned you, but what about your next colleague that didn’t get the warning?

Good safety management is being able to collect data about potential dangers and incident causes, warn the right people and prevent incidents from happening. To establish such a situation the people within your organization should be armed with at least the following:

  • Awareness that potential dangers exist;
  • The means to communicate these potential dangers to the right person;
  • Tools to analyze incident causes to expose structural weak points in safety management.

With these three ingredients a shift in your company can be made towards prevention instead of corrective safety management.
